Secondupdate.com – The science fiction horror film Ash, starring Iko Uwais, Aaron Paul, and Eiza González, has received a positive reception upon its debut on the review site Rotten Tomatoes.

"Ash is a must-watch film for fans of psychological sci-fi horror. With stunning performances, a tense atmosphere, and a strong story, this film is a perfect blend of fear, memory, identity, and the struggle to survive," the review stated.

The film is directed by Flying Lotus (Steven Ellison) and initially achieved a perfect 100 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes after its premiere at the SXSW Film Festival 2024. However, as more reviews came in, the score slightly dropped to 91 percent as observed on Sunday in Jakarta.

Despite the score decrease, Ash continues to receive widespread praise from critics. The film has been lauded for its blend of sci-fi and horror elements, as well as the compelling performances of its cast.

Jamie Broadnax of Black Girl Nerds called Ash a must-watch for fans of psychological sci-fi horror, highlighting its outstanding acting, eerie atmosphere, and strong narrative.

Meanwhile, Nicolás Delgadillo of Discussing Film described Ash as "a mind-blowing and stylish cosmic horror," also praising Eiza González for delivering one of the best performances of her career.

The film follows Riya (Eiza González), an astronaut who wakes up on a remote planet only to discover that her entire space station crew has perished. Suffering from amnesia, Riya has no recollection of her identity or what happened, forcing her to be cautious of a man who claims to have come to help her.

The film also stars Beulah Koale and Kate Elliott and premiered at the SXSW Film Festival 2025.

Iko Uwais portrays a character named Adhi in the film, according to Rotten Tomatoes. Ash has become one of his highest-rated films on the site.

Previously, the Minang-born actor also appeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), which holds a 93 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
