Secondupdate.com - Scarlett Johansson has once again confirmed that her role as Black Widow, aka Natasha Romanoff, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has officially ended.

"Natasha is dead," said the 40-year-old American actress in an interview with InStyle published on Tuesday (March 11).

Johansson added that although many fans still hope for Natasha's return, it will not happen.

"They’re like, 'But she can come back!' Look, I think the balance of the entire universe is in her hands. We have to let her go. She saved the world. Let her enjoy her heroic moment," she said.

Natasha Romanoff's character sacrificed herself to save the universe in Avengers: Endgame (2019). However, many fans still hope there is a way to bring her back.

Johansson did return as Black Widow in the prequel film Black Widow (2021), but she has now confirmed that her journey in the MCU is over.

Aside from her role in the MCU, Johansson also had issues with Disney.

In July 2021, she sued the company over the simultaneous release of Black Widow in theaters and on Disney+, which she claimed violated her contract. However, a few months later, the two parties reached a settlement.

Now, Johansson is focusing on new projects outside of Marvel. She will direct her first feature film, Eleanor the Great, starring June Squibb.

"I was inspired by independent films from the mid-'80s to the mid-2000s. Living Out Loud. Crossing Delancey. Moonstruck," she said.

In addition, Johansson will star in The Phoenician Scheme, set to hit theaters on June 6, 2025, as well as Jurassic World: Rebirth, scheduled for release on July 2, 2025.
