"Mickey 17" Dominates North American Box Office in Its Opening Week

Seconduldate.com - The latest science fiction film Mickey 17, directed by South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho, has topped the North American box office in its first weekend of release.
According to Variety on Sunday (March 9), the film, starring Robert Pattinson, earned $19.1 million from 3,807 theaters across North America.
Not only successful in North America, Mickey 17 also grossed $25.4 million from 66 other countries worldwide.
When combined with domestic earnings, the film’s total global revenue has reached $53.3 million.
Ticket sales for Mickey 17 received a significant boost from premium formats like IMAX and Dolby, which contributed up to 47% of the total earnings in its first week.
Beyond North America, the film also saw strong earnings in several countries, including South Korea ($9 million), France ($2.9 million), and the UK ($2.7 million).
Premiering on February 28, Mickey 17 is adapted from the novel Mickey7 by Edward Ashton.
The story follows a human sent on a colonization mission to an inhospitable ice planet, where he repeatedly dies and is resurrected.
In addition to Robert Pattinson, the film features a star-studded cast including Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo.
Bong Joon-ho, who previously achieved worldwide success with Parasite, has once again captured attention with Mickey 17. Parasite itself was the first foreign-language film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture.
With this achievement, Mickey 17 has the potential to become one of the biggest sci-fi films of 2025.
